Chairs
of SACREs: As you are aware, there is widespread concern
that the English Baccalaureate is threatening the future of RE in
schools, albeit unintentionally. Here are two letters that you can
adapt for your local area and add local flavour. One is to secondary
headteachers in your LA, asking them to consider carefully the arrangements
they put into place for next September. The other is to your local
MP. NASACRE wants to support the national lobbying of the DfE to have
the place of RE assured and this is best served by having it in the
Ebacc.

The
BBC has reported on The Runnymede Trust's interim
findings from a consultation on the establishment
of community cohesion in particular areas of the country
and what the phrase and its impact mean to the people
in these areas. See the BBC
article. and the link
to the trust’s interim report can be located
below. This interim report by Professor Audrey Osler
presents some initial observations from the faith
schools and community cohesion project. It draws upon
a series of community consultation workshops that
took place with local stakeholders around the country
in summer 2007. The report highlights shared challenges
as well as diverse and particular responses to ways
in which a school system that includes faith schools
successfully prepares young people for living in a
multicultural society.
